Summer Shenanigans

What is summer really about? Some would say lounging by the pool, going to the beach or the lake. Others might say summer jobs, travelling, catching up with friends. For me, summer is about all of the above, every summer I come up with a list of things that I want to do. Sometimes it’s just getting outside more, and others it’s travelling, even if that means just going to the beach. In the summer of 2013 my best friend and I went to Music Midtown, a music festival held at Piedmont Park, in Atlanta Georgia. It was the first music festival that I had ever been to and I was really excited. The trip turned out to be a great experience, we saw Imagine Dragons, Weezer, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Journey between the Friday and Saturday shows. On Friday it rained pretty much all day, which sucked until we remembered how much fun we were having anyway.

This summer I really wanted to do something big to celebrate my recent college graduation. I got some friends together and we worked on planning a weekend hiking trip. While the plans for that kind of fell through we still got to zip line across the Chattahoochee River and complete a pretty cool aerial course in Phoenix City Alabama. It was a very tiring but fun day.

But that’s not where my plans ended. My best friend had been to Bonnaroo, a music and arts festival held in Manchester Tennessee twice before and talked about what an amazing time she had. The festival is pretty pricey but I was open to trying something new. When I saw the lineup I knew for sure that this was going to be my big event of the summer. For three months we prepared for the festival, buying camping gear, clothes, water, more water (seriously water is everything at Bonnaroo). When the time finally came I thought that I was ready, I had everything I needed, but when I got there I soon learned that I was not ready at all. I wasn’t ready for the positivity that came from everyone there, I wasn’t ready for the super positive vibes, I wasn’t ready for the amazing shows. We saw Florence and the Machine, Hozier, Twenty One Pilots, Alabama Shakes, Bassnectar, Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar, Dawes, and Billy Joel. It was a hot five days but it was completely worth it!
